William E. Echard

March 11, 1938      May 5, 2020

     William E. Echard, 82, of Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday morning, May 5, 2020 at AristaCare at Huntingdon Park.

     He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raymond O. and Rose L. (Dunkle) Echard, and was raised in the home of Charles E. and Ethel M. (Whiteman) Clowson of Williamsburg for a number of years.  On October 8, 1960 he married Audrey Jean Frye at Fairview Church of the Brethren, rural Williamsburg.

     Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years; a son, Gary E. (Rustyann) Echard of Lebanon; a daughter, Melinda K. Delaney of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren: Tyler, Logan and Haleigh Echard and Noah Shuey; a sister, Janet Echard of Altoona; and a brother, John of Claysburg.

     Bill was preceded in death by a grandson, Jordan Shuey; a son-in-law, Lou Delaney; two sisters: Betty Echard and Myrtle Wike; and three brothers: Raymond Jack and Kenneth Echard.

     He was U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1958 until 1962, during this time Bill served aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Ticonderoga and attained the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class.

     Bill was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of Bonner-Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg and the former Williamsburg VFW Memorial Post 6086.

     He retired on April 1, 2000 as a machine tender from Westvaco, Williamsburg with 35 years of service.  Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cutting fire wood and playing cards with his friends.

     Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all services will be private and inurnment will be held at Shellytown-Fairview Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.

     Memorial contributions in memory of Bill can be given to Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1022 Fairview Rd., Williamsburg, PA 16693.
