Thomas W. Merritts Sr.

Thomas W. Merritts Sr., 88, rural Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday evening, November 24, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Canoe Creek, son of the late Ross E. and Virgie L. (Leamer) Merritts. Tom was twice married, first to Betty Jane Esthright, who preceded him in death and then to Violet Mullins.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Violet of 46 years; two sons: Thomas W. Merritts Jr. (Dana) and Jake Merritts (Lacie); a daughter, Joy A. (Jason) Lee all of Williamsburg; 11 grandchildren: Cheyenne, Jessie, Dalton, Jacob (Becca), Ben, Rein, and Esmae Merritts, Shannea and Josey Fetters, Adrianne and LeAnna Lee; two great-grandchildren: Miah Maish and Rhyatt Merritts.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Miriam Musselman, Clara Weyant and Barbara Heiss; and four brothers: David “White”, Homer, James and Donald Merritts.
Tom retired as a burner/welder from Berwind-White Railroad Car Shops, Hollidaysburg after 15 years of service and had previously worked for Bottenfield Power Line Construction, Williamsburg.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private graveside service will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, rural Hollidaysburg. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.
