Sandra “Sandy” L. (Creighton) Detwiler

Sandra “Sandy” L. (Creighton) Detwiler 78, of rural Martinsburg, was called home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2023. She was a resident in the memory care unit of Magnolia Place at Summer Village in Auburn, Alabama.
She was born on November 25, 1944 in Altoona. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Madeline (Claycomb) Creighton. Surviving are two siblings: Robert Creighton of Arkansas and Barbara (Jerry) McCormick of Duncansville. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Jesse “Sonny” Detwiler, brother Frank Creighton, sister Judith (Creighton) Slimmer and infant brother Thomas Creighton.
She was married to Jesse C. “Sonny” Detwiler on October 13, 1962. They cherished 59 years together and had traveled to all 50 states.
Surviving are their two sons: David (Kimberly) Detwiler of Utah, Ronald (Wanda) Detwiler of Tennessee, and daughter, Pamela (Paul) Jenkins of Georgia. They have been blessed to have 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Sandy spent her life serving the Lord, her family, and her community. Sandy was a certified Lay Speaker, a youth group leader, lead Bible School and taught Sunday School for 50 years. She and her husband spent many years serving with the Volunteers In Mission (V.I.M.) team rebuilding homes and lives after natural disasters. She was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1962.
Sandy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg. The last several years she attended the church of her youth, Salem United Church of Christ, rural Martinsburg. She also received spiritual support from Enhabit Hospice care.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3pm, Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Martinsburg. A funeral service will follow at 3pm at the church, Pastor Micah Clouse, officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Salem Reformed Church Cemetery. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.
