Ruth E. Hinton Hoover

Ruth E. Hinton Hoover, 92, of Martinsburg, passed away Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024 at UPMC Altoona.
She was born at her home in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Paul F. and Helena M. (Gahagan) Rhodes. Ruth was twice married, first to Kenneth H. Hinton who passed away on January 10, 1978 and then to David W. “Doc” Hoover, who preceded her in death on June 2, 2007.
Surviving are seven children: Nancy A. Levitsky (Steve) of State College, David A. Hinton (Deborah) of Lima, NY, Joseph K. Hinton (Sherry) of Roaring Spring, Betsy L. Villalobos of Shrewsbury, Jeffrey P. Hinton (Sharon) of Roaring Spring, Robert W. Hinton (Amy) of Williamsburg and Ryan L. Hinton of Martinsburg; eleven grandchildren: Renae Greene (Craig Hufnagle), Zachary Levitsky (Darby Punt), Holly Weaver (Tylere), Jonathan Hinton (Jennifer), Kristi Reyes (Carlo), Nathan Hinton (Jill), Nicole Harris (Justin), Joseph M. Hinton (Stephanie), Stefanie Kensinger (Trevin), Heather Dickson (Russell) and Heidi Smith (Ron); 23 great-grandchildren; four step-children: Sharon Brower, Patricia Teeter, Douglas Hoover and David W. Hoover Jr.;13 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wilbur Rhodes (Carol) of Hummelstown.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Connor Hinton; a son-in-law, Alfred “Freddie” Villalobos; a sister, Anna Ferne Long-McConahy; and two brothers: Robert and Kenneth Rhodes.
Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg and longtime member of Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren.
She raised her children and assisted her husband, Ken, on their dairy farm for many years. Ruth later worked in the activities department at the Morrisons Cove Home in Martinsburg.
Ruth was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife, mom and grandma that cherished time with her family. She also enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, needlework, reading, playing the piano and making braided rugs.
Friends will be received from 10 until 11:30 am, Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Martinsburg Memorial Church of the Brethren, where a funeral service will begin at 11:30am, Pastor Chris Garretson officiating. Private interment will be held at Spring Hope Cemetery, Martinsburg.
