Ruth D. Long

Ruth D. Long, 102, formerly of Sinking Valley, was called home to be with the Lord early Monday morning, September 9, 2019, at Homewood at Martinsburg.
She was born in Carlisle, the daughter of the late Preston J. and Verne (Replogle) Detwiler. On May 14, 1939, she married Wilfred L. Long at the New Enterprise Church of the Brethren, where both were active members. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2001.
Surviving are a nephew, Thomas Detwiler and wife, Joan of Woodbury.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard Detwiler of Bakers Summit, PA and Vernon Detwiler of Buffalo Junction, VA; and a sister, Sarah Reynolds of Timmonsville, SC.
Ruth was a 1935 graduate of Replogle High School, New Enterprise and one year later began working at the home office of New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. There in 1967 she was instrumental in founding the Quarter Century Club, which was comprised of 33 members in its first year. She later retired in 1976 with a total of 42 years of service. Ruth and her husband, Wilfred, spent the next 22 years in their retirement home at Sinking Valley, where they were active members of the Presbyterian Church.
There will be no viewing and a private interment will be held at Holsinger Cemetery, Bakers Summit. A celebration of life service will be held at 10 am, Friday, September 13, 2019 at Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, Pastor James Neatrour, Reverend Marlys Hershberger, and Mr. Allen M. Detwiler officiating.
