Roger Wayne Furry

Roger Wayne Furry, 63, of rural Roaring Spring, passed away, Friday evening, May 21, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Robert O. and M. Lucille (Rhodes) Furry. On February 14, 1981 he married Wanda A. Shindledecker at the Albright Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 40 years; a daughter, Kristen N. Myers (Greg) of Shippensburg; a son, Joshua W. Furry (Miranda) of rural Roaring Spring; four grandchildren: Wyatt, Willow, Rose and Barrett Myers; two brothers: Steven L. Furry (Colleen) of rural Roaring Spring and Gregory A. Furry (Kay) of Osterburg; and many special nieces and nephews.
Roger was a 1976 graduate of Central High School and attended Claysburg Bible Church.
Following graduation he worked as a welder at the shipyards in Norfolk, VA and then for a short time at Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station in Dauphin County. Roger retired with over 40 years of service, working for NRG, Penelec and Plant Service Group. For many of those years he worked with the Red Hat Mobile Maintenance team, who specialized in welding, pipefitting, machining and fabricating. His skills and certifications allowed Roger to weld and work with most metals.
Roger was a truly gifted fabricator, welder and inventor, who built and designed many of his own go-carts and motorcycles. He loved dirt track motorsports including: Trial Bikes, Micro Sprint Cars(7Z) and Go-Carts(7Z). He also enjoyed blue grass music and taught himself how to play the banjo in his 40’s.
Friends will be received 2-6pm, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Claysburg Bible Church, where a funeral service will follow at 6pm, Pastor Keith Showalter officiating. Private interment will be held at Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
