Ray Neal Riley

Jan. 3, 1934 – Jan. 1, 2021

     Ray Neal Riley, 86, formerly of Roaring Spring, died early Friday afternoon, Jan. 1, 2021, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

     He was born in Roaring Spring the second son and fifth of six children to Robert and Helen A. (Kagarise) Riley.

     Neal is survived by a brother, Paul A. of Tiffin, Ohio; a sister, Neva Carper of Roaring Spring; numerous nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Lois and Gertrude; and a brother, John "Slim."

     He was a traffic manager for V.S. Steel Supply Division of U.S. Steel Corp. of Newark, N.J. Neal was a lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association; a member of AARP, The American Red Cross, Murray-Appleman American Legion Post No. 147, where he served three terms as Post Commander, Post Adjutant for over 30 years and also served as an Adjutant and Deputy of the American Legion's 21st District of PA for a number of years. He was a former member of Delta Nu Alpha Fraternity, The Traffic Club of Newark, N.J. and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in New York City.

     He was a 1952 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and a 1961 graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Business Administration.

     Neal was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War and served aboard the USS Bennington for part of his military service.

     He was an avid reader who had a special interest in the American Civil War and World War II and also was a classical music enthusiast.

     According to Neal's wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral service. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.

     In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Roaring Spring Community Library, The Pattee Library or The Palmer Art Museum of Penn State University would be appreciated.
