Marion E. “Gene” Lear

November 24, 1946      May 27, 2020

     Marion E. “Gene” Lear, 73, of Altoona, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 27, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.

     He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Irene C. (Hatch) Lear. 

     Surviving are two daughters: Heather and Sara; a son, Wade; a niece, Lori Lynn; five sisters: Martha Blair, Geraldine Favasuli, Helen Dodson, Joyce Verbonitz and Bernice Wilson; three brothers: Donald C., Charles D. and George M. Lear and numerous stepsiblings.

     He was preceded in death by two sisters: Ellen Whiteaker and Thelma Morley; and four brothers: Earl C., Benjamin F. Jr., Raymond E. Sr. and Walter C. Lear and numerous stepsiblings.

     Gene was a graduate of Williamsburg High School and a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Bonner-Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg.

     He was employed for many years at Boyer Candy, Altoona and Standard Steel, Burnham and also worked at various dairy farms throughout his lifetime.

     Gene loved hunting, traveling and dairy farming. He also enjoyed watching western movies, Notre Dame Football and listening to country music.

     At Gene’s request there will be no public services and arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.
