Marguerite R. “Maggie” Hicks, 88, of Homewood at Martinsburg, passed away Thursday evening, April 7, 2022 at her residence.

She was born in Central Falls, RI, daughter of the late Emile and Rosamond (Berube) Guy.  On July 4, 1952 she married James Clark Hicks in New Bedford, MA. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1992.

Surviving are three sons: John D. Hicks (Isabelle) of Paris, France, James R. Hicks of Gettysburg and David A. Hicks (Sharon) of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren: Joseph C. Hicks, Michael J. Hicks, Jamie R. Weaver (Zayne), Sarah Hicks and Stephanie Hicks (Christopher Smith); a great-grandson, Lucas C. Weaver; and her companion, Frank McKay of Homewood.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Doris and Leona; and four brothers: Lucienne, Louis, Paul and Roseario.

Later in life, Maggie completed her GED and then in her 50’s, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Chatham College, Pittsburgh.  She was employed for many years as a social worker in the Somerset area and also worked as an ombudsman for the Area Agency on Aging of Somerset County.

Marguerite was of the Catholic faith and loved flower and vegetable gardening, quilting, cross stitching and sewing.  She made many beautiful dresses for Catholic lay teachers.  Maggie was an honest, practical, and loving person, with a wonderful sense of humor.

Her family is planning a small, private celebration of life service for a later date.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
