Lois Jean Dempsie

Lois Jean Dempsie, 85, a resident of Garvey Manor, formerly of Hollidaysburg, passed away Wednesday morning, June 16, 2021, at the home.
She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Neff Earl and Edith Belle (Vanderpool) Gunnett. On June 18, 1955, she married David E. Dempsie in Winchester, VA, and he preceded her in death on February 23, 2018.
Surviving are two sons: Gregory D. (Kathy) and Zane D. (Laurie) both of Duncansville; two daughters: Catherine Y. Wyant (Charles) of Woodbury, and Barbara J. DeWitt of Roaring Spring; 10 grandchildren: David Wyant, Michelle Miller, Hillary Piggott, Haley Parson, Gregory Dempsie, Zana Archey, Ethan, Zoran and Aria Dempsie and Michael DiGiacobbe; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edwin N. Gunnett of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by six brothers: James, Hubert, Willard, Harold, Marion and Arch; and five sisters: Doris Ann and Rita Gunnett, Erma Banks, Hazel Smith and Shirley Deter.
Lois was a graduate of Williamsburg High School. She was a member of Hollidaysburg Christian & Missionary Alliance Church and was active with the Christian Women’s Fellowship Group. She served as the coridnator for the Pioneer Girls at the Clappertown Alliance Church and was the instructor for her daughter’s baton group, The Patriots. Lois and her husband, Dave shared their home with many children through the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption Foster Children Program.
She enjoyed bowling, horseback riding, singing in her church’s choir and golfing with her husband at the Sylvan Hills Country Club, Hollidaysburg.
Friends will be received from 2-4pm, Sunday, June 20, 2021 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg and from 11am until the noon funeral service, Monday, June 21, 2021 at the funeral home. Her son, Pastor Zane D. Dempsie will officiate and a private interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
