Donald G. Lynn

Donald G. Lynn, 85, a resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Canoe Creek, passed peacefully late Monday, January 25, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born and raised on a farm on Piney Creek, Williamsburg son of the late John S. and Della P. (Banks) Lynn. On April 14, 1956 he married Marian J. Gorsuch in Altoona. Marian passed away four hours after Don, while staying in the same room at UPMC Altoona. They were by each other’s side for 64 years, till the very end.
Surviving are three children: Cindy J. Fickes (Harold), LouAnn Hileman (N. Alton), and Kirk D. Lynn (Laura); six grandchildren: Brittany L. Miller (Dustin), Cody C. Fickes (Allison), Tyler J. Hileman (Kellie), Kyle D. Hileman (Elizabeth), Taylor E. Lynn and Makenna K. Lynn; nine great-grandchildren: Bryson Miller, Dylan Miller, Alyson Miller, Harper Fickes, Oakley Fickes, Sadie Hileman, Kennedy Hughes, Haddison Hileman and Hudson Hileman.
Don was a 1953 graduate of Williamsburg High School and as a young man, helped open and worked at the Blair Street Esso Gas Station, Hollidaysburg. After graduating, Don worked in construction and drove truck, while building their home in Canoe Creek. He was also employed at Westvaco for eight years before starting his career as an insurance provider. Don retired in 2000 as an Independent State Farm Insurance Agent with 38 years of service. During those years, he helped countless people and created many friendships for life.
He was a member of the Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and held various positions on the church board. Don spent endless hours helping with church projects and was instrumental in starting the soup ministry for the church. He also traveled and volunteered for numerous disaster relief trips with the Church of the Brethren.
Don was involved in many community organizations and served on various committees including: serving for 10 years on the The Village at Morrisons Cove Board and 10 years on the Standing Committee; helping to organize the Williamsburg Jaycees and assisting with the start-up of other Jaycee chapters; trustee for the Harpster Memorial Park Association; serving with the Life Underwriters Association for many years; volunteering at Camp Blue Diamond and helping to originate the Heritage Fair; and was a Hunter Safety Instructor for over 40 years.
He loved hunting trips and spending time out West with his son, Kirk and also enjoyed family camping trips, and traveling to Europe, Canada, and all over the US with his wife, Marian. Don always enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Don always said, “God is good.”
Due to COVID-19 restrictions a private funeral service will be held at this time, with a celebration of life service to be held at a future date. Private interment will follow at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, rural Hollidaysburg.
