David Lynn “Dave” Metzger, 73, of Emmitsburg, MD, formerly of Roaring Spring, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, following a brief battle with cancer.

He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late Samuel E. and Lois (Sponsler) Metzger.

Surviving are a son, Trevor D. Metzger (Rachael); and a grandson, Henry Wilson Metzger of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Nancy L. Baker (Gary) of rural Martinsburg; a brother, Stephen C. Metzger (Marsha) of Roaring Spring; his fiancée, Angela M. “Angie” Armolt. Dave will also be missed by his nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by two brothers: Samuel E. and Nelson D. Metzger.

He was a 1967 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg and in 1971 Dave earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University.  In 1974 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served stateside at Beale Air Force Base in California.  He was a member of the VFW Post 7689 Auxiliary, Roaring Spring and the American Legion Post 121, Emmitsburg, MD.

Dave was employed locally at Roaring Spring Blank Book Co. and Appleton Papers.  In 2000 after moving to Maryland, he worked for the city of Fredrick, from where he retired.  Following retirement, Dave enjoyed his part-time job at Jubilee Foods.

An avid golfer (loved his “Bandits” and his trips to Ocean City and Myrtle Beach) and a devoted (and biased) sports fan of CHS (Go Dragons); PSU (Fight on State) and Pittsburgh Steelers (Here We Go).

Dave was of the protestant faith and was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Roaring Spring.
