David B. Lehman

David Barley Lehman, 76, of Roaring Spring, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, May 7, 2023, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown.
He was born in Martinsburg, son of the late D. Herbert and Miriam C. (Barley) Lehman. On April 17, 1971, he married Linda L. Wolfinger at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Martinsburg.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Linda of 52 years; two children: Nichole L. Bischof (Stephen) of York, and Matthew D. Lehman (Laura) of Malvern; four grandchildren: Ryan Bischof, Evan Bischof, Aviana Lehman and Madelyn Lehman; a sister, Joyce Gordnier of Wellsville, NY; several beloved nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
David was a 1964 graduate of Central High School, and earned an Associate Degree in Agricultural Business from Penn State University in 1966. He enlisted in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard from 1967-1973. After returning from active duty in the summer of 1967, David started his career as an accounting trainee at Crane Company in Duncansville, and then as a cost accountant at Puritan Sportswear/Warnaco. In the fall of 1972, he started a 24 year career at Young’s Livestock Foods in Roaring Spring. During his time at Young’s/Cargill, he held various positions including accounting manager, IT manager, purchasing manager, and credit manager. In January 1996, David was hired as controller for Lytle’s Transfer in Altoona, where he worked until his retirement in March 2015.
David was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. He volunteered his time, serving on church council, finance committee, endowment committee, and audit committee. He also served as the usher chairman for many years.
David was proud of his home town and enjoyed giving back to the community. When his children were young, he served on the Spring Cove Area School Board. He was also a charter member of the Spring Cove Educational Foundation, where he served as treasurer of the organization and chairman of the golf outing fundraiser from 1995 to 2013. He was a member of the D. Merle Tipton VFW Post 43, and served on the marching drill team for 20 years.
He loved golfing and was an active member of Iron Masters Country Club. In addition to golfing with friends, David served a number of years on the board of directors, during which time he held positions of finance chairman, treasurer, vice-president, and accounting/computer consultant.
David was a sports fan and enjoyed following Central High School sports, long after his children graduated. He was also an avid Philadelphia sports fan. However, more than anything, David loved watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He had a huge heart and loved his family and friends immensely. David always had a camera in hand to capture those small and big moments. He loved going to the beach every summer and going out to eat every week. David loved spending weekends with his children and grandchildren. He is irreplaceable and will be missed by many.
Friends will be received from 11 am – 1 pm, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, where a funeral service will follow at 1 pm, Pastor Traci Marriott officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
