Charles Richard Barr

Charles Richard Barr, 84, of Martinsburg, passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Henry Clayton and Elizabeth A. (Hartman) Barr. Charles spent the majority of his life in the Martinsburg area, and especially on Lock Mountain Road.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Linda L. Barr of Martinsburg; nieces and nephews: Robert Geist (Charlene), Carol Rhodes (Wilbur), Sherron Wechs, Steven Shope (Nancy), Randall Shope (Cynthia), Christopher Whetstone (Diana), Connie Rightnour, Michael Barr (Cathy), Joseph Barr (Laurie), Matthew Barr (Nicole); and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Dorothy A. Geist (Paul), Helen E. Petee (Frank), Marjorie Shope-Whetstone and Pauline G. Banks (Robert); a brother, James R. Barr; a nephew, Ronald L. Banks; and best friend, Charles “Chuck” Mosey.
Charles was a 1956 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg. He attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and went on to earn a Masters of Education Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His entire thirty-four year teaching career was spent as an art teacher (K-12) in the Spring Cove School District. He also taught watercolor classes for their adult education classes and more recently painting classes for the residents of Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Martinsburg and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Charles loved painting in watercolor, teaching, travel and gardening. His most memorable trips were to Germany, Switzerland, Nova Scotia, Alaska and his favorite, a trip to Italy.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public viewing. Friends will be received from 10 until the 11am funeral service, Saturday, June 4, 2022 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Martinsburg, Pastor James Neatrour officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
