Carl Franklin Helsel

Carl Franklin Helsel, 96, of Blue Knob, rural Portage, Greenfield Township, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday morning, December 8, 2021 at the Lutheran Home at Johnstown.
He was born in Blue Knob, son of the late Francis and Ethel Marie (Long) Helsel. On December 24, 1943 he married Helen M. Coy in Woodbury. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2014 following 70 years of marriage.
Surviving are five sons: Edward C. (Georgetta) and Thomas B. (Elaine) both of Blue Knob, David L. (Janet) of Altoona, Donald P. (Sue) of Duncanville and Joseph F. (Brenda) of East Freedom; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elwood (Delores) of Portage.
He was preceded in death an infant sister, Thelma Louise; and two brothers: Ralph and Harry Zane Helsel.
Carl was a 1943 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He was a faithful member of Puzzletown Road Bible Church, where he served on the deacon board.
He was a longtime dairy farmer in Blue Knob and also worked for 20 years for his son, David at CTR Supply in Duncansville. Carl was a member of various farm organizations and also helped for years with the Blair County 4H Club.
Carl loved sharing the good news with others about Jesus Christ, spending time with his family and also enjoyed bowling.
There will be no public services and a private interment will be held at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Blue Knob. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
