C. Sherman Dick

Charles Sherman Dick, 82, of rural Martinsburg finished his work on earth and returned to his maker, Thursday morning, October 22, 2020 at Conemaugh Medical Center, Johnstown.
He was born at his lifelong home in rural Martinsburg, son of the late John W. and Verna A. (Acker) Dick. On June 27, 1958 he married Janet L. Hileman at Salem UCC.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years; four children: Clifford L. Dick (Deb) and Carol J. Replogle (Todd) both of Martinsburg, Connie J. Brumbaugh (Jeff) of rural Williamsburg and Mark A. Dick (Mary) of Woodbury; a foster son, William Hatch of East Stroudsburg; 13 grandchildren: Leslie Showalter (Bill), Amanda Dick (Marshall Dickens), Billy Dick, Joshua Dick, Tyler Smith (Natalie), Nathan Replogle, Amanda Biddle (Josh), Rachel Biddle (Zachary), Morgan Pugh (Joel), Emily Brumbaugh (Lance Imler), Caleb Dick, Logan Dick and Conner Dick; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death a daughter, Cindy Lou Dick; a son, Carl Eugene Dick; a grandson, Randy Replogle; a great-granddaughter, Naomi Faith Biddle; two sisters: M. Janice “Peg” Fortenbaugh and P. Joyce Frye; and a brother, Thomas L. Dick.
Sherman was a 1956 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, Martinsburg where he was a member of the FFA. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for six years. Sherman worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier for over 30 years and also owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Martinsburg. After retiring from farming, he purchased a flatbed truck and made many local deliveries for Over’s Feed Store, Martinsburg. More recently he drove Mennonite families both locally and throughout the country.
He was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ, rural Martinsburg, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, on consistory and as president of the cemetery board. Sherman was also a member of Martinsburg Boosters, Martinsburg Volunteer Fire Company, Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service, Williamsburg Burial Association and Crazy Horse Memorial, Rapid City, SD.
Sherman loved spending time with his family, especially with his grand and great grandchildren and was also a very dedicated volunteer for disaster relief, truly helping people rebuild their lives. He also enjoyed traveling out west and all across our country, having visited all 48 continental states.
A viewing will be held from 10 until 11am, Monday, October 26, 2020 at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Martinsburg, where a funeral service will follow at 11am, Rev. Dr. David W. Ervine and Pastor Micah Clouse officiating. Private interment will be held at Salem Reformed Church Cemetery.
