Walter D. “Walt” Babiak, 69, a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Altoona, went home to be with his Lord, early Friday morning at UPMC Altoona.

          He was born in Altoona, son of the Dorothy A. (Young) and the late Walter P. Babiak. He was previously married to Darlene (Page) Panek of Altoona.

          Surviving are his mother of Duncansville; three daughters: Julie Babiak (Abraham Gingerich) of Belleville, and Jeanette Babiak and Jasmine Babiak, both of Altoona; 8 grandchildren: Layla, Gabriel, Elijah, Lillian, Lorilye, Ignatius, Page, and Eugene; and a brother, Earl F. Ayle of Chandler, AZ.

          He attended Altoona Area High School and was a United States Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War, serving from 1967-1970, attaining the rank of corporal.

          Walt was employed as a tool & die maker for SKF, Altoona.

          He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, and also enjoyed photography, hiking, camping and spending time in the outdoors.

          Friends will be received from 11 am until the noon funeral service with military honors, Monday, May 14, 2018, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg, Pastor J. Brant Leidy officiating.  Private interment will be held at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood, PA.

          Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
