Shirley “Joyce” Walter

Shirley “Joyce” Walter, 86, James Creek, Huntingdon County formerly of East Freedom, passed away Saturday evening, July 28, 2018 at The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville.
She was born in Bedford, daughter of the late Elmer and Alice (Benton) Deffibaugh. On July 19, 1947 she married Chester H. Walter in Winchester, VA and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2013.
Surviving are three sons: Barry (Linda) of Chambersburg, Ronald (Shirley) of Reedsville and James (Tonya) of rural Martinsburg; six grandchildren: Sherri, Jason, J.R., Crystal, Erin and Emily; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Kyle Walter; two brothers: Joseph and William; and two sisters: Jean Ellis and Audrey Clair.
Joyce attended Bedford High School and was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, James Creek.
She retired as a production supervisor from Tritex Sportswear, Altoona with over thirty years of service.
Joyce loved spending time with her family, traveling and wintering in Florida with her husband, Chet. She also enjoyed quilting, for which she received many awards and volunteering at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.
Friends will be received from 6-8pm, Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the funeral home, Pastor Douglas E. Satterlee officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
