Shirley J. Kensinger, 81, rural Roaring Spring was called from this life early Tuesday morning at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in St. Clairsville, Bedford County, daughter of the late Dale and Harriet (Imler) Henderson. On July 24, 1955 she married G. Fred Kensinger in St. Clairsville.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 62 years; a son, Lonnie D. (Susan) Kensinger of rural Everett; two daughters: Dr. Trina (J. Andrew) Thompson of rural Ebensburg and Landi K. (Richard) Gibson of Duncansville; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
Shirley was a longtime, active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, where she served on various committees and also a member of the local Women’s Red Hat Society. She owned and operated Shirley’s Something Special in rural Roaring Spring where she specialized in catering and preparing special occasion baked goods.
She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed baking and cooking. This passion helped her to author a cook book called, Favorites of Family and Friends.
Friends will be received from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg and from 1 pm until the 2 pm, funeral service, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the church, Pastor Ed Harshbarger officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Shirley may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 115 E. Penn St., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
