Shirley H. Ellington

Shirley H. Ellington, 84, Martinsburg, formerly of Montgomery County, MD, passed away late Saturday evening, June 2, 2018, at The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville.
She was born in Lawrenceville, PA, daughter of the late Bruce R. and Helen Cecelia Marie (Honan) Hawk. On November 17, 1955, she married Hugh David Ellington in Silver Springs, MD, and he preceded her in death on December 3, 2013.
Surviving are a daughter, Laura R. Quick (Mike) of Libertytown, MD; a son, David Bruce (Carol) of Bedford; three grandchildren: Dina Bartolomeo, David J. Benedict, and David T. Ellington; 2 great-granddaughters: Zoe Rose, and Allie Mae Benedict; and a sister, Faye Topp of Basye, VA.
Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Washington DC. Following high school, she volunteered for the U.S.O., during the Korean War. She retired as a database analyst from IBM, Bethesda, MD, in 1993 with 25 years of service. While working at IBM she was most proud of her assignment supporting NASA during the Mercury project.
Shirley loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed gardening, needlework and reading.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. When arrangements are complete, they will be posted on the funeral home website.
