Ruth E. Lykens, 69, Williamsburg, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday evening at The Village at Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg following an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Roland E. and Julia Gladys-Arella (Lear) Luke. On September 18, 1965, she married David E. Lykens in Williamsburg. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2008.
Surviving are a daughter, Regina S. (Mark) Nedimyer; a son, Thomas G. Lykens both of Williamsburg; 5 grandchildren: David J. (Christina), Ryan A., Rachelle L. (Tony) Rispoli, William D., and Kathryn E.; 4 great-grandchildren: Aiden, Rosaleen, Damian and Blake Rispoli; 2 brothers: James D. (Arlene) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Richard D. “Rick” (Nancy) of Williamsburg; and 2 sisters: Judy Cole (Darryl) and Violet M. Blontz, both of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by a son, William D., on January 5, 1996; and 7 siblings: Roland E. Jr., Dorothy L. Bowser, Samuel J., Margie J. Bowser, Mary Alice Grubb, Betty J. Luke, and Charles E.
Ruth was a 1964 graduate of Williamsburg High School, and a 1981 graduate of Trocaire College, Buffalo, NY, where she received an associate degree in registered nursing.
She began her nursing career in Irving, NY, working as a registered nurse at Lakeshore Hospital for approximately 11 years. Ruth was employed locally as a home nurse and also worked for The Village at Morrisons Cove and Homewood at Martinsburg.
Ruth was an active, long-time member of Grace Pointe Community Church, formerly Williamsburg Church of God. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and listening to southern gospel music.
Friends will be received from 2-5 pm, Sunday, October 15, 2017 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, October 16, 2017, at Grace Pointe Community Church, Williamsburg, Bishop Dennis J. Pruitt officiating. Private interment will be held at Oreminea Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.
The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the American Cancer Society, 1004 N Juniata St, Hollidaysburg 16648.
