Richard D. “Dick” Gunnett

April 25, 1927         July 6, 2017

     Richard D. “Dick” Gunnett, 90, rural Williamsburg, passed away early Thursday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg.

      He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Dean B. and Kathryn M. (Craig) Gunnett.  On July 20, 1951 he married Marjorie H. McClure in Winchester, VA.

     Surviving are his beloved wife of 66 years; a son Dean Richard “Rick” (Melissa); a daughter, Jo Holland all of Williamsburg; 3 grandchildren: Mandi Prough, CD Gunnett and Dusty Holland; 3 great-grandchildren: Laney and Regan Prough and Fin Gunnett.

     He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ann Dunlap and a brother, Charles D. Gunnett.

     Dick was a 1945 graduate of Williamsburg Community High School.  He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving in WW II for the 475th Air Service Group, attaining the rank of Private First Class.

     He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, Bonner Sollenberger American Legion Post 456, Williamsburg and the former Williamsburg Memorial VFW Post 6086.

     Dick was employed as a mechanic for Hammond’s Garage, as a pipe fitter for West VA Pulp & Paper Company, operated Gunnett’s Garage and also worked for the Williamsburg School District as a bus driver and did maintenance on the buses.

     He enjoyed riding motor cycles, skiing and bowling.

     Friends will be received from 4:30pm until 6pm, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.  A celebration of life service with military honors will follow at 6pm at the church, Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich officiating.  Private inurnment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.  Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.

     The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Company Station 90 or a local charity of your choice.
