Gladys R. Criswell

Gladys R. Criswell, 85, rural Martinsburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 10, 2019, at her home.
She was born in Williamsburg, daughter of the late Charles W. and Esther M. (Brantner) Sausman. On June 12, 1951, she married Samuel A. Criswell in Martinsburg, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2004.
Surviving are three sons: Wayne E. (Carolyn), Larry W. (Mary) and Gary S. (LuAnn) Criswell, all of rural Williamsburg; two daughters: Debbie A. Tate and Kathy J. (Donald) Talbert, both of rural Martinsburg; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Betty L. Buhler of Blairsville; and two brothers: Charles W. Sausman of Shelocta and James Sausman of Juniata, Altoona.
Gladys was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William T. “Bill” Tate and a great-grandson, Joshua Stadler.
She was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ, rural Martinsburg, where she served as a deaconess, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Women’s Guild. Gladys also was a member of the former Pioneer Girls.
She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed flower gardening, bowling and doing picture puzzles.
Friends will be received from 5-8pm, Friday, April 12, 2019 at Salem United Church of Christ, rural Martinsburg and from 10 until the 11 am funeral service, Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the church, Pastor Jack Russell officiating. Interment will follow at Salem Church Cemetery, rural Martinsburg.
