Galen R. Miller

June 4, 1940        December 4, 2017

 

     Galen R. Miller, 77, rural Williamsburg, passed away Monday afternoon at his home, following an extended illness.

     He was born at his family’s home in rural Williamsburg, son of the late Ray O. and Hattie M. (Treese) Miller.  On January 1, 1961 he married Deloris E. Hoover at Smithfield Church of the Brethren.

     Surviving are his beloved wife of almost 57 years; a son, Rodney R. Miller of Martinsburg; a daughter, Brenda S. (Miller) Nead of James Creek; 4 grandchildren: Ryan Miller, Stephanie Miller, Jacob Nead and Sara (husband, Jake) Gongloff; great-grandson, Gunner Gongloff; and 2 sisters: Doris Reed of Homewood at Martinsburg, and Francis Haire of Hollidaysburg.

     He was preceded in death by 3 sisters:  Lorraine Weyandt, Gladys Frye, and Florence Focht; and a brother, Donald Miller.

     Galen was a 1959 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg, and served in the Army National Guard.

     He retired as a maintenance shop mechanic from Mead Westvaco, Williamsburg, formerly, U.S. Envelope with 40 years of service.  Galen previously worked at Westvaco in Covington, VA and also as a local carpenter.

     Galen was a member of Martinsburg Sportsman Club and a former member of the Holiday Rovers Camping Club.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandson and his beloved dog, Gabby and also enjoyed hunting, camping, boating and watching NASCAR.  Galen attended the Clappertown CMA church.

     Friends will be received from 2-5pm, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, where a funeral will be held at 11am, Monday, December 11, 2017, grandson, Pastor Ryan R. Miller officiating.  Private interment will be held at Royer Cemetery, rural Williamsburg.

     The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Home Nursing Agency Foundation (family hospice and palliative care), 201 Chestnut Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
