Doris L. Gwin

October 16, 1931     January 18, 2018

     Doris L. Gwin, 86, Canoe Creek, rural Williamsburg went home to be with the Lord early Thursday morning at her residence.

     She was born in rural Williamsburg, daughter of the late Luther H. and S. Ellen (Zook) McClure.  On September 2, 1955 she married Bruce R. “Pap” Gwin in Williamsburg and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2014.

     Surviving are a daughter, Terre Detweiller (Chris) of Williamsburg; a son, Bruce W. (Barb) of Timmonsville, SC; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Gunnett of rural Williamsburg.

     She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Dre Blakeslee Grager; a sister, Dorcas L. Royer; two brothers: Ralph and Robert McClure; and a half-sister, Lois Shreiner.

    Doris was a 1949 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a 1952 graduate of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia where she earned a degree in nursing.  Doris retired in 1995 as a registered nurse from the Altoona VA Medical Center, with many years of service.

     She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg.

     Doris loved spending time with her family and competing in local bowling leagues, she also enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and playing card and board games.

     Friends will be received from 11 am until the 1 pm, funeral service, Monday, January 22, 2018 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg, Pastor Tiffany E. Marvich and Bishop Robert Patterson officiating.  Private interment will be held at New Canoe Creek Cemetery, rural Hollidaysburg.

     The family prefers memorial contributions be given to Williamsburg Ambulance Club or your favorite local charity.
