Dolores Ormsby Obituary

Dolores H. Ormsby

June 18, 1929                March 24, 2018

Dolores H. Ormsby, 88, Martinsburg, passed away Saturday morning, March 24, 2018,  at The Village at Morrisons Cove after an extended illness.

She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Joseph and Susan (Kasper) Hrubes.  On October 8, 1949, she married Donald G. Ormsby in Pittsburgh and he passed away on October 10, 2011.

Surviving are four children: Donald G. Jr. of Roaring Spring, Deborah K. Kaiser of Huber Heights, OH, Dirk R. of Altoona and Duane E. of Bozeman, MT; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Albert and Joseph Hrubes.

Following her marriage to Donald, the couple moved to Martinsburg and eventually built a new home at a small farm on Lock Mountain.

She was a hard-working and loving house wife, raising four children and always putting the children ahead of herself.  Dolores made sure the children ate, dressed properly and were ready for the bus on time.  If any of the kids had a problem with homework, she was always there to help and correct problems.

Dolores had a large garden where she was constantly hoeing and pulling weeds.  She would always put up enough vegetables to get her family through the winter.  Dolores enjoyed mowing the grass, but always used the push mower, never getting on the riding mower.  In the fall, you could always find her under the grape vines eating the grapes she loved.

She probably painted every room in the house at least five times.  Dolores always used the old wringer washing machines and hung the clothes up to dry.  She was a great cook, and her ham pot pie and gobs were outstanding.

When Dolores decided to relax, she would watch old movies and comedy shows from the 60’s and 70’s.  If she wasn’t reading her Bible, a magazine or a novel, she was sewing.  Over the years, she made many beautiful afghans.

Eventually, Dolores moved to a cottage in the Morrisons Cove Home with her husband. After his passing in 2011, she moved into the constant care wing at The Village.  Over the next seven years, she enjoyed her time there.  The staff loved her, and would hand her a piece of chocolate whenever they came by. Dolores would always smile and say thank you. She wasn’t a lady of many words, but she always had a smile on her face.

At Dolores’ request, there will be no public services.   A private burial for Dolores and Don will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
