Angeline A. Speacht

Angeline A. Speacht, 96, formerly of Garden Heights, Altoona, died Friday evening at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
She was born in Minier, Ill., daughter of the late Noah and Emma (Nafzinger) Christner. She married Eugene G. Speacht on Aug. 3, 1946, in Altoona. He died Feb. 17, 2010.
Surviving are two children: Eugene F. and wife, Diane, of Duncansville and Judy Soolook of Fairbanks, Alaska; a granddaughter, Danielle Barnes; two step great-grandchildren: Zach Barnes and wife, Lani, and Rachael Dempsey and husband, James; and three great-grandchildren: Grace, Sarah and Douglas Barnes.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Douglas Speacht; and two sisters: LaVern Houchin and Vera Donelson.
Angeline was a graduate of Minier High School, Minier, Ill., and received a B.A. in nursing from the Mennonite School of Nursing in Bloomington, Ill. She retired as a registered nurse from Van Zandt VA Medical Center with 25 years of service. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII in Indochina.
She was of the Protestant faith and was a former member of Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting and sewing and loved traveling, especially to Alaska.
She grew up on a farm and plowed with horses, and lived to see many advances in technology.
There will be no public visitation or funeral service. Private interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Leukodystrophy Foundation Inc., 224 N. Second St., Suite 2, DeKalb, IL 60115.
