     Rose F. Straesser, 91, resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Walnut Street, Martinsburg, went home to be with the Lord, Monday evening at UPMC Altoona, following a brief illness.

     She was born along Clover Creek, rural Martinsburg, daughter of the late Clayton and Fannie (Harstrom) Frye.  On September 19, 1948 she married J. William Straesser in Martinsburg.  He preceded her in death on October 21, 2009.

     Surviving are a son, W. Dwight (Debra) of Duncansville; 2 grandchildren: Sara Straesser (Philip Yargosz) of Pittsburgh and Matthew (Emily) of Charlottesville, VA; and a sister, Marjorie Moon of Albuquerque, NM.

     She was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Mary Guyer and Mabel E. Rhodes; and 5 brothers: infant Donnie, Denver “Bud”, I. Dale, Merle “Butch” and Gary.

     Mrs. Straesser was a 1943 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School and received her Registered Nursing Diploma from Women’s Medical College of Philadelphia (now, Drexel University).

     She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, the Hollidaysburg Chapter Order of Eastern Star #471, Martinsburg Boosters Association and local Red Hat Society.

     Rose retired as a registered nurse from Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg.  She also worked for various hospitals and did private duty nursing during her career.      

     She loved watching her grandchildren, gardening and baking cakes.

     Friends will be received from 6-8pm, Friday, June 2, 2017 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg and from 10am until the 11am, funeral service, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, Pastor Ed Harshbarger officiating.  Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
