Helen Mae Tate, 98, resident of Homewood at Martinsburg formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Thursday evening at the home.

She was born in Clearfield, daughter of the late Kay and Rose (Dunlap) Bloom.  On October 24, 1942 she married Donald A. Tate in St. Louis, MO.  He preceded her in death on September 26, 2004.

Surviving are a son, Duane C. Tate of Marietta, GA; three grandchildren: David Tate of Jacksonville, FL, Matthew (Shari) Tate and Nicole (Brian) Roberson both of Kennesaw, GA; six great-grandchildren: Nicole and Dylan Tate of Jacksonville, FL, Kelsey and Gavin Tate & Braxton and Britton Roberson all of Kennesaw, GA; and three sisters: Edna Shimmel, Violet Erickson and Lois Winebold.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Bloom who passed away on February 2, 1920.

Helen was a 1935 graduate of Clearfield High School.   She was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg and had also attended Yellow Springs Lutheran Church, rural Williamsburg.

For many years she owned and operated Tate’s Jewelry Store in Williamsburg with her husband, Don until their retirement in 1985.  Helen was also very talented at gift wrapping, and during the holiday season she did this for many people in Williamsburg.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mount Union Chapter #280 and also served as Worthy Grand Matron in 1977 for the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania Order of the Eastern Star.

Helen loved and took great pride in raising and being part of everything her son Duane accomplished in his life.  She also enjoyed playing cards (bridge was her favorite), traveling and taking cruises with her husband, Don.

Friends will be received from 2-4pm, Sunday, October 22, 2017 at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg.  A funeral service will be held at 1pm, Monday, October 23, 2017 at the funeral home, Pastor Betty J.
