December 2, 1932            September 27, 2015

Barbara Jean Reib Johnston, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, died suddenly but peacefully at the age of 82 on September 27, 2015 as a result of complications from surgery.  Barbara was born on December 2, 1932, the daughter of Jennie and Glenn Reib.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lloyd B. Johnston, former Superintendent of Beth-Center Schools.

Barbara was an avid reader, book club member, and published poet, penning personalized poems for special family occasions as well.  She also created lovely stitcheries that she shared with family.  Barbara and her husband, Lloyd, built their dream home in Fredericktown, PA, doing most of the work themselves.  Barbara was a certified X-Ray Technician and worked at Brownsville General Hospital for many years.  Later in life, Barbara returned to college and earned her Bachelor’s Degree at the age of 70 from California University of Pennsylvania, with enthusiastic support from her family and friends.

In addition to raising their four children and working full-time, Barbara volunteered with the local elections office and at the Fredericktown library.

Barbara is survived by her four children, Mary Johnston Condon, Carol (Wes) Johnston Butler, Lloyd (June) Johnston, and Gail Johnston Guillard, and her six grandchildren, Zachary (Kristen) Condon, Michael Condon, Arianna Guillard, Nicholas Johnston, Grace Johnston and Benjamin Johnston.

A memorial celebration was held at Homewood at Martinsburg’s Concord Room on Saturday, October 3, 2015.  In recognition of Barbara’s life-long interest in scientific research and in alignment with her decision to donate her remains to scientific study, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 200 SE 1st St Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, by calling 800-473-4636 or on-line at www.parkinson.org.  Inurnment will be at the Buckingham Cemetery in Deemston, PA at a later date.
